An 18-year promotional products industry veteran, Horn works with a number of suppliers, distributors and service providers, consulting on their publicity, catalog and social media efforts.

Prior to launching Content Matters in 2008, Horn spent nearly 10 years on the staff of Promotional Products Business (PPB) magazine, with seven years as editor. She got her start in the promotional products industry in 1994 as an account executive with Dallas, Texas-based distributor Zimmerly & Co., Inc.

A graduate of Oklahoma State University, Horn holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a major in marketing. She has been an active volunteer with the Dallas Chapter of the Association of Women in Communication, serving as programs chair (1999-2001), president (2001-2002), membership committee member (2009-2010) and communications chair (2010-2011).

She has also been a judge for both the AWC Clarion Awards (1999 and 2010) and the ASBPE Annual Azbee Awards of Excellence (2007) competitions (evaluating magazine feature article categories). Additionally, she has judged the PPAI Supplier Achievement Awards (2008-2010), PPAI Pyramid Awards (2008 and 2010) and PPAI Technology Awards (2011).

A self-proclaimed magazine lover and knowledge junkie, Horn could spend all day in the newsstand at her local Barnes & Noble. Unhappy clients. There’s always so much negativity in the world. Seems hard to escape it. Where’s the motivation to be good at your job, let alone anything else?

And then you come across a site like Expert Enough. Launched just two months ago, this little ray of sunshine says the heck with being a Jack-of-all-trades. Finding your passion and being an expert at it is where’s it at.

It’s practical advice with just enough gentle encouragement. “Good enough” is no longer good enough. It’s time to be great again.

I haven’t had the pleasure of delving deep into the site yet, but it’s rising to the top of my must-read list. After you read the manifesto, pictured above, you’ll be hooked, too. (You can even buy the manifesto as a poster on Cafe Press. Damn smart.)

I complimented her on the concept because I believe we can all use more gratitude in our lives. Then the folks at Happy Hap joined the conversation to let us know about the 365 Grateful project, which is now being turned into a documentary. LOVE IT! It’s such a great idea that I had to share it with you.

Here are all the details from the happyhap blog:

365 GRATEFUL - THE DOCUMENTARY

What happens when ordinary people unlock the remarkable powers of gratitude? In 2008, Brisbane based Hailey Bartholomew started the 365 Grateful Project where she took one polaroid photo a day of something for which she felt grateful.

The effect, she says, was truly life-changing: “Seeing and celebrating the good in my life affected not only the way I felt spiritually and physically, but it improved my relationships with others, too. It was not long before it was hard to only take a single photo each day. The more I noticed and took photos, the more I began to notice the good and great moments in my life and wanted to capture them.”

What’s more, ever since Hailey put her project on Flickr, hundreds of people began to do their own 365 grateful projects (or similarly inspired ones). Soon the project went viral and individuals, schools, magazines and radio stations started talking about it. To this date, the 365 Grateful Project continues to impact people around the world.

In fact, the reactions have been so amazing that it is now being worked into a documentary in which Bartholomew’s inspiring personal journey along with several interviews of comedians, authors, musicians and leaders in various fields to examine the power of gratitude on various areas of life, from marriage through to the brain.

To get some behind the scene insights, follow along the journey through the 365 Grateful blog as Hailey and her mother Toni approach with humour the ups and downs of making a film about gratitude as a mother/daughter team.

Be Inspired And…

Support the documentary through a donation and see the message of gratitude spread

Get the word out about the movie by blogging, twittering or facebooking about 365 Grateful! Check here for a synopsis of the documentary

Take a camera, write a journal or make a drawing to express your gratitude on a daily basis and share it with others.

I love Star Wars. And I love cappuccino (especially sipping it at a street-side cafe in Florence). Combine the two together and, well… you have Darth Vader latte art. In 2007,...

The Future Of Blogging & Social Media Marketing

In 2007, only 16% of U.S. companies used blogging for marketing purposes. Today, it’s 39%. And in 2012, it’s projected to hit 43%.

These are just some of the interesting factoids in this infographic from Michael Martine (aka Remarkablogger).

The most surprising (to me) is the 93% success rate of using Message Boards as well as YouTube, as these are both used much less than Facebook.

Smart marketers know how important is it to establish a presence in underutilized media that is growing in popularity—before their competition does. Will you capitalize on the opportunity?
